The joy of transforming sea glass into precious memories

The joy of transforming sea glass into precious memories

Nestled on the stunning Dorset coast lies the breath-taking Charmouth beach - a haven of natural beauty and endless inspiration. This is where my journey begins. Charmouth isn't just a picturesque location; it's a treasure trove, a place that whispers stories with every tide. Armed with sturdy boots and a keen eye, I venture out with two of my favourite companions - my husband and Poppy, our spirited long-haired Weimaraner. Together, we comb the shoreline, rain or shine, wind or calm, in search of glistening fragments of sea glass.

There’s something magical about these outings. The rhythmic crash of waves, the briny scent of sea spray, and the thrill of discovery fill the air. Whether it's a brilliant shard of cobalt blue or a subtle, frosted green piece, every find is a tangible connection to the ocean's mysteries. Poppy, of course, takes these adventures very seriously, bounding through the surf and wagging her tail as if she too senses the treasures beneath the sand.

Back in the sanctuary of my studio, the story continues. With collected sea glass spread before me, inspiration takes root. Each piece has its own journey—weathered by the sea, smoothed by time, and finally unearthed to become something new. I cherish this process of transformation, imagining how each shard might shine in its new form, be it earrings that evoke the sparkle of waves, a necklace reminiscent of the coast, or a bracelet that feels like holding onto the sea itself.

The joy of this craft isn’t just in the creations but in the moments they represent: braving the elements with the ones I love, the tactile connection to nature, and the spark of creativity that turns forgotten fragments into wearable art. Each piece carries a piece of Charmouth's beauty, a memory of shared adventures, and a celebration of the sea’s timeless wonder.

This is why I make sea glass jewellery - it’s not just about the finished product, but about the journey, the connection to the coast, and the joy of sharing that story with others. So the next time you hold one of these pieces in your hand, you’ll know it’s more than jewellery - it’s a little piece of Charmouth’s heart, lovingly crafted to be treasured.
